The bank was registered as a limited liability company in Moscow in 2001. The banks initial participants (with 20% stakes) were Elektra-Eco, Kanion+, Ecoelvis-97, Bakery Trade Development and Langer & Co. In July 2007, the bank obtained a general banking license from the Bank of Russia, and turned into an open joint stock company in June 2009. In October 2009, SMP Bank took over MBTS-Bank (International Bank of Trade Cooperation). The Rotenberg brothers and Dmitry Kalantyrsky also owned Bashkortostan-based Investcapitalbank, which was acquired in 2008 (SMP Banks takeover of Investcapitalbank was wrapped up on October 26, 2015). On May 20, 2014 SMP Bank bought 97.4% of Mosoblbank, 99.38% of Finance Business Bank and 100% of Inresbank. These acquisitions were driven by the Bank of Russias May 21, 2014 decision to rehabilitate these lending institutions, with SMP Bank elected to rescue them. For these purposes, the bank took out a Rub 96.8 bln 10-year loan from the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA), while the latter itself borrowed funds from the Bank of Russia. SMP Bank will gain access to a wide network run by these banks (Mosoblbank runs 600 units, Inresbanks network exceeds 50 and Finance Business Bank runs 20 units). \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
After the United States and the EU imposed sanctions against SMP Bank major shareholders in 2014, on March 21, 2014 international payment systems Visa and MasterCard blocked the lending institutions card transactions. Two days later the payment systems admitted their mistake and overturned the relevant decision. On April 28, 2014 Washington imposed new sanctions on Russian companies and high-ranking officials. SMP Bank was also on the list of companies hit by the sanctions. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
As of March 2018, a 43.223% stake was held by Boris Rotenberg, and a 49.995% holding was in the hands of his brother, Arkady Rotenberg* (Arkady Rotenberg who, in addition to SMP Bank and other companies, is a friend of Vladimir Putin and president of ice hockey club Dynamo, and his brother Boris Rotenberg runs the namesake football club). Elena Ruzyak holds a 4.832% interest, and the rest (1.949%) is distributed among minority shareholders. \n
In addition to the head office in Moscow, the lending institution runs divisions in 23 constituent entities of Russia. The banks network is comprised of six branches, 56 additional offices (34 of them in Moscow and the Moscow region), six cash credit and 10 operating offices. As of January 1, 2018 the banks headcount average 2,326. The lenders ATM network consists of around 400 machines. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
The bank serves over 100,000 retail customers and more than 11,000 corporate customers. The lending institutions clientele includes many budget-financed institutions and agencies, and various industrial, trade and service firms, auto dealerships, construction companies, healthcare centers, agricultural complexes and businesses from other sectors. The banks customers include such companies as Rossiya Airlines, 360 Aircraft Repair Plant, Avtodor, municipalities of Gorno-Altaysk, Astrakhan, Ryazan, urban district Zhukovsky, Volgogaz, Volgogradneftemash, Hydromash, the Finance Ministry of the Murmansk region, the Chief Operating Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the Finance Ministry of the Republic of Adygea, the Financial Department of the Administration of the Krasnogvardeisky region, etc. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
SMP Bank provides a wide range of products and services to both households (mortgage and auto loans, deposit products, money transfers, plastic cards, brokerage and depositary services, etc.) and businesses (cash settlement services, deposits, credits, support of foreign economic operations, leasing, services on the securities market, corporate bank cards, payroll projects, etc.). The banks core activities are to draw deposits, open and maintain customer accounts, issue loans and guarantees, offer cash settlement services, conduct securities and foreign currency transactions. As for the breakdown of the credit portfolio by sectors, most of the portfolio fall to construction, real estate operations and the state-controlled sector. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
In 2017, the banks net assets dropped marginally (-0.1%, or Rub 376.5 mln) to Rub 359.2 bln as of January 1, 2018. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
A decrease in the banks grand total was mainly driven by an outflow of funds drawn in the inter-bank lending market, which depressed the banks resource base. On the asset side, granted inter-bank loans and other assets declined the most. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
The lending institutions liabilities are poorly diversified by sources of attraction and stand out by high dependence on retail funds, which accounted for 40% of the banks total net liabilities as of the balance sheet date. During the period under analysis, the breakdown of drawn funds changed as follows: \r\n \r\n
\u00b7 the weight of retail funds in liabilities increased from 39.4% to 40%, with the nominal amount rising by Rub 2.2 bln; \r\n \r\n
\u00b7 the portion of corporate funds in liabilities rose from 13.1% to 17.9%, while the nominal amount jumped by Rub 17.3 bln; \r\n \r\n
\u00b7 the share of drawn inter-bank loans in liabilities dropped from 29% to 16.3%, with the nominal amount sliding by Rub 45.7 bln; \r\n \r\n
\u00b7 the weight of own securities in liabilities grew from 9.2% to 12.1%, while the nominal amount rose by Rub 10.7 bln; and \r\n \r\n
\u00b7 as of the balance sheet date, the lending institution did not have any borrowed funds on loro accounts. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
As of January 1, 2018 the lending institutions own funds stood at Rub 37.7 bln, up 28.7% YTD (or Rub 8.4 bln). As of the balance sheet date, own and borrowed funds accounted for 10.5% and 89.5%, respectively. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
Most of the banks assets fall to granted inter-bank loans, which accounted for 43.2% of net assets as of the balance sheet date. As of January 1, 2018 the weight of interest-bearing assets and other assets was 86.6% and 13.4%, respectively. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

\u00b7 the share of the securities portfolio grew from 8.2% to 10.5%, with the nominal amount rising by Rub 8.2 bln; \r\n \r\n
\u00b7 the weight of inter-bank loans decreased from 52.2% to 43.2%, while their nominal amount slid by Rub 32.6 bln; \r\n \r\n
\u00b7 the share of high-liquidity assets rose from 4.3% to 5.3%, with their nominal amount growing at Rub 3.7 bln; \r\n \r\n
\u00b7 the portion of fixed assets fell from 1.7% to 1.5%, while their nominal amount sank by Rub 561.6 mln; and \r\n \r\n
\u00b7 the weight of other assets declined from 9.9% to 5.7%, with the nominal amount falling by Rub 14.9 bln. \r\n \r\n \r\n
As of the balance sheet date, the financial institutions aggregate credit portfolio stood at Rub 119.6 bln, or up Rub 35.8 bln (42.8%) YTD. The bulk of the banks credit portfolio falls to corporate loans (86.3%). The credit portfolio is mainly long-term, with 1Y+ loans accounting for 55.5%. During the period under analysis, overdue debt in the aggregate credit portfolio dropped from 4.5% to 3%. Meanwhile, credit portfolio provisions stand at 4.1%, or fully cover overdue debt. Assets collateralized against loans amount to Rub 105.8 bln (88.5% of the credit portfolio). \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
The securities portfolio totals Rub 37.8 bln (10.5% of net assets). The portfolio mainly consists of bonds, with 32.3% falling to corporate bonds of foreign issuers, 21.7% to OFZs and Bank of Russia bonds, 11.8% to corporate bonds of Russian issuers, around a quarter, as of January 2018, fell to the securities collateralized under repurchase transactions, and Russian stocks account for a portion of the portfolio. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
The lending institution both lends and borrows in the inter-bank lending market. As of January 1, 2018 lent funds amounted to Rub 155.1 bln, with Rub 5 bln out of this amount held on deposit accounts at the Bank of Russia. As of January 1, 2018 the money borrowed was Rub 58.4 bln. The financial institution is very active in the currency market. During the latest month turnover of conversion operations totaled Rub 900.3 bln. \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
In 2017, the lending institutions net profit amounted to Rub 3.32 bln under RAS (net profit totaled Rub 467.22 mln in 2016). \r\n \r\n\r\n
